Mountain Mulch
Mulch is a layer of (usually organic) material applied to the surface of soil. It may be permanent (like plastic sheeting) or temporary (like bark chips).
It can be applied to bare soil or around existing plants. Mulches of manure or compost are incorporated naturally into the soil by the activity of worms and other organisms. The process is used both in commercial crop production and in gardening, and when applied correctly, can dramatically improve soil productivity.
People apply mulch to conserve soil moisture, improve the fertility and health of the soil, reduce weed growth and enhance the visual appeal of an area.

Compost
Compost is organic matter which is rich in nutrients and has been decomposed in a process called composting. This process recycles various organic materials otherwise regarded as waste products and produces a soil conditioner (the compost), which:
- Is healthy, dark, crumbly and fluffy (unlike regular light brown, often almost gray, topsoil).
- Is a natural soil conditioner, fertilizer and natural pesticide.
- Contains no man-made/artificial fertilizers which may degrade the nutrient value of your soil.
- Contains natural elements like phosphorus, potash, nitrogen and other trace elements.
- Provides a rich growing medium, or a porous, absorbent material that holds moisture and soluble minerals, providing the support and nutrients which help plants and vegetables flourish.
- Start with a heap of wet organic matter (also called green waste), like leaves, grass and food scraps.
- After several months, it breaks down into humus. However, composting also can take place as a multi-step, closely monitored process with measured inputs of water, air, and carbon- and nitrogen-rich materials.
- The decomposition process is aided by shredding the plant matter, adding water and ensuring proper aeration by regularly turning the mixture when open piles or "windrows" are used.
Gardens and Landscaping: Apply layers of compost in the spring (to help plants start strong) and in the fall (to help warm the soil and feed beneficial organisms).
Horticulture, urban agriculture and organic farming: Compost boosts water retention in soil, which means vegetables require less irrigation. It also tends to facilitate bigger crop yields, giving food producers a better harvest. This all adds up to more growth with less water — and, in turn, a more affordable way to create food. Compost can be tilled directly into the soil or growing medium to boost the level of organic matter and the overall fertility of the soil. Compost often requires much less fertilizer compared to soil lacking compost. Note: Compost isn't fertilizer. Compost energizes and feeds soil with rich nutrients. Fertilizer feeds plants.
Ecosystems: Most ecosystems have untouched topsoil -- the upper, outermost layer of soil, usually the top 5 to 10 inches. Compost is useful for erosion control, land and stream reclamation, wetland construction, and as a landfill cover. It has the highest concentration of organic matter and microorganisms and is where most of the Earth's biological soil activity occurs. Topsoil is composed of mineral particles, organic matter, water and air. Organic matter varies in quantity on different soils. The strength of soil structure decreases with the presence of organic matter, creating weak bearing capacities. Organic matter condenses and settles in different ways under certain conditions, such as roadbeds and foundations. The structure becomes affected once the soil is dewatered. The soil's volume substantially decreases. It decomposes and suffers wind erosion.
Society: Compost can be transformed into biodegradable products like cartons, plates, dinnerware, chopsticks, napkins, take-out containers, cups and cup warmers.

Biosoil
Imagine a soil that acts as a natural fertilizer, reduces contaminants and disease, and is denser in nutrients (and has lower runoff) than regular soil.
Biosoil creates rich, nutrient-dense soil for use in farms and gardens. It's a terrifically sustainable way to use organic, biological material using no chemicals -- just organic matter and various natural, beneficial biosoil.

Biosoil creates rich, nutrient-dense soil for use in farms and gardens. It's a terrifically sustainable way to use organic, biological material using no chemicals -- just organic matter and various natural, beneficial bacteria.
Using nitrogen-fixing bacteria which converts nitrogen into a natural fertilizer, biosoil is also a soluble phosphate, which helps make soil more phosphorus-rich. All this combined improves turf and soil health, reducing the need for additional fertilizers. Plants develop a natural resistance to disease and other toxins, so pesticides are not as critical for crops.
Our trusted soil scientists have formulated our Biosoil with the perfect blend of components so it has superior hydroconductivity, has the proper drainage to go in the soil, and is stable for the environment it's going into.
